1. UNDERSTAND THE STUDY VISA VS. STUDY PERMIT

  • Study Visa:Allows entry to that specific Country.
  • Study PermitAuthorizes you to study in that Country.
  • You’ll need both, so it’s crucial to understand the difference.


2. CHECK ELIGIBILITY

  • You must have an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in that Country.
  • Show proof of financial support for tuition, living expenses, and return transportation.
  • No criminal record; a police certificate may be required.
  • Medical exam may be necessary if you plan to stay over 6 months or come from specific countries.

    3. PREPARE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

    • Valid passport.
    • Letter of acceptance from a DLI.
    • Proof of financial support (bank statements, scholarships, etc.).
    • DIGITAL photos, following the specifications.
    • Statement of Purpose (SOP) explaining why you want to study in Canada.
    • Any other documents requested (police certificates, medical exams).

    4. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION


    • Apply online through the Government website or at a visa application center (VAC) in your country.
    • Pay the application fee: currently CAD 150 for the study permit.
    • Provide biometric information if required (fingerprints and photos).

      5. TIMELINE AND PROCESSING

      • Processing Time: It varies depending on your country. Average time is between 4 to 20 weeks.
      • Some countries have faster processing through the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
      • Ensure you apply as early as possible, ideally 4 to 6 months before your intended course start date.

          6. POST-APPLICATION STEPS

          • If requested, attend an interview or submit additional documents.
          • Track your application status online.
          • Upon approval, you’ll receive a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction. Present this along with your study permit when you arrive in Canada.

            7. ARRIVAL IN COUNTRY

            • Carry all required documents with you: POE letter, study permit,TT Copies, passport, DLI acceptance letter.
            • A border services officer will confirm your eligibility to enter and issue your study permit on arrival.

              8. COMMON CHALLENGES AND TIPS

              • Financial Proof: Be meticulous with your financial documents to prove you can support your stay.
              • Incomplete Documents: Double-check your submission to avoid delays or rejections due to missing papers.
              • Clear SOP: Make your Statement of Purpose compelling and clear about your study goals and future plans.

                9. EXTENSIONS AND POST-GRADUATION

                • If your course exceeds the duration of your permit, apply for an extension well in advance.
                • After completing your studies, consider applying for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP), allowing you to stay and work in Canada for up to 3 years.
